Bambu Brothers is/are Dub Gabriel and Kerac, two global multi-media artists. Dub Gabriel is one of the leading voices in the new Dub Music scene having performed onstage and recorded with a who's who of artists including George Clinton, Bill Laswell, Public Enemy and Michael Franti among many. His most recent solo album Bass Jihad spent over two months in the CMJ New World Music charts and the multitude of reviews praised it, comparing him to Brian Eno and Bill Laswell.
Cranebuilders hail from Liverpool, home of other great bands like Echo & the Bunnymen, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and a few members of Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The obvious comparisons would be the Velvet Underground and Cowboy Junkies; slow to mid-tempo minor key melancholy but there's more to Cranebuilders than that. John Peel was a big fan of the band having them on his shows repeatedly, and Guy Garvey of Elbow released their UK full length on his label, Skinny Dog (as well as contributing backing vocals on a few tracks). The U.S. version has an additional 8 tracks of previously unreleased and UK only tracks. Buy Sometimes You Hear through Someone Else here!
Dub Gabriel is one of the leading lights on the New Dub scene. Alongside fellow travelers like Dr. Israel, DJ Goo, and Heavyweight Dub Champions, DG has been expanding the genre at the same time respecting all that's gone on before. As a live performer, DG has shared the stage with the likes of Bill Laswell, George Clinton, and Umar bin Hassan (Last Poets); as a producer he's worked with Karsh Kale, Baraka Orchestra, and Grammy nominee Angela McCluskey among others, and as a DJ he's spun around the world for the likes of Natalie Portman, Britney Spears, and Joaquin Phoenix.
Fasten your seatbelts, your audiopharmaceutical travel agent Genetic druGs is at the controls. Creating a true 'world' album, GD spent years travelling around the world recording collaborators in the most natural settings possible: living rooms, village squares, fields...whatever worked. Returning to his Berlin lab, Genetic then added his own touches, beats, and mixing skills to create this album...which he then handed over to his fellow mixmasters who remixed so many tracks that it looks like there may be a remix version of Contagious in 2008. For the time being, enjoy the journey...
From Tijuana, Mexico comes Lhabia, a five piece ambient psychedelic ensemble. Influenced by older generations (Pink Floyd, Hendryx, early New Order, The Cure) as well as contemporaries like Mogwai and Godspeed You long named band, they've built up a strong and loyal following both in TJ and across the border in San Diego. The debut album will be released internationally in January 2008 but you can pre-order copies now for delivery in late November.
If Patti Smith fronted the Velvet Underground...and they were raised by Gypsies in New Orleans...and they played every show as if it was St. Patrick's Day...you'd almost have Mad Juana. Led by vocalist Karmen Guy and guitarist Sami Yaffa (original member of Hanoi Rocks, current bassist for the New York Dolls) this outfit somehow blend an assortment of influences and sounds into a Sonic Stew. Fans of Gogol Bordello, the Pogues, Gypsy and Celtic music and great live shows will all appreciate the band. Currently working on their new album (due in early 2008), Azra released Acoustic Voodoo in May 2007. Buy it here!

NIC in Dub came about when the members of Norway's Necessary Intergalactic Cooperation sent the tracks from their soon to be released album to producers around the world and asked them to 'dub it up!' Some of the top producers in the dub field came on board and Azra is proud to release the results in January 2008. Contributors include Dub Gabriel (featuring dub poet Infinity), Youth (Killing Joke), Twilight Circus Dub, Teledubgnosis, Spectre the Ill Saint, Kanario d'Bogart, Mothboy, Dalek, Dr. Marble, King Salmonella, and JK Flesh. The tracks from the original sessions were produced by heavyweight Scotty Hard and feature the legendary Keith Levene (the Clash, Public Image Limited). We're releasing a digipak version first and a 2 record LP in the following months.
Pacific Ocean Fire are at the forefront of the resurgent UK Americana movement. Drawing from both sides of the Atlantic, their influences range from older artists like Gram Parsons, Neil Young, and Jimmy Webb, to contemporaries like Tindersticks and Grandaddy. Steady touring and great reviews in the UK have them plaing festivals and opening tours for larger artists. Their U.S. debut, Strangers and Deranged Patients will be released globally in January.
Starline Theorie is a collective of San Diego based musicians who started off as an ambient world music project and continue to evolve into various other versions. The group released their debut album, Vega in 2004 to great reviews and solid airplay. Their followup album, Obon was released in 2005 to similiar praise and airplay. The band is currently working on a third album though no date for release or completion has been set.
Australia's Velure have been busy as of late, with one of their songs popping up on NBC's "Life" broadcast in October and two weekslater, being part of a remix album that won "Best New Artist" at the Australian ARIA Awards (similiar to the U.S. version of the Grammys...only with probably better groups!). They've also been very patient with Azra as we've repeatedly delayed the release of their stunning debut, Care for Fading Embers. Fans of Portishead, Massive Attack, Boards of Canada, trip hop and just really cool dubby ambient tracks with a haunting female voice (courtesy of Lynnelle Moran) will dig Velure.
